Что сегодня можем сделать мы, потомки тех детей, многим из которых повезло, и они сумели пережить ужасы мировых войн и тоталитаризма? По крайней мере, мы обязаны и дальше хранить благодарную память о тех людях, которые поставили гуманизм выше политических пристрастий и национальных и религиозных различий. Мы должны продолжать рассказывать удивительную историю петроградских колонистов своим собственным и чужим детям и внукам, чтобы воспитывать и развивать в них добрые начала, заложенные природой, и подавлять те, что никак не могут считаться качествами человека. Нетерпимость, ксенофобия, любая агрессия, прежде всего военная, губительны для отдельных людей и народов и человечества в целом. Примеры гуманизма в истории помогают формировать человека, который не готов бросаться с топором на соседа только потому, что он ему чем-то не симпатичен. Наша задача показывать и рассказывать, как люди могут оставаться людьми в самых невероятных обстоятельствах.

К сожалению, в сложившихся условиях нам стало трудно осуществлять свои планы, в том числе с участием наших зарубежных партнеров. Но мы поддерживаем с ними связь и очень благодарны друзьям и партнерам в Японии, США, Швеции, которые с пониманием отнеслись к нашему положению и продолжают деятельность по международному проекту в своих странах. Особенно интенсивно занимаются распространением сведений об истории петроградских детей в Японии. Конечно, во всех их выставках, встречах, публикациях и видеоматериалах они делают акцент на роль своей страны в спасении русских детей. Это вполне естественно, тем более, что им есть что вспомнить и чем гордиться. Наши американские друзья из академической среды продолжают исследования, участвуют в конференциях, публикуют и готовят к публикации разные материалы, касающиеся роли США в спасении и возвращении на родину петроградских колонистов. В Швеции занимаются изучением биографии пастора Сарве, члена Шведского Красного Креста, сыгравшего ключевую роль в передаче терпящих бедствие детей под крыло Американского Красного Креста. Мы ждем новых открытий и публикаций и сохраняем некоторую надежду на то, что когда-нибудь настанут другие времена и мы сумеем вновь завоевать доверие как в соседних, так и в далеких странах, и снова сможем сотрудничать.

Мы поздравляем наших друзей, партнеров и помощников, всех тех, кто разделяют нашу позицию неприятия агрессии и насилия. Мы желаем всем здоровья, любви и взаимопонимания в семьях, добрых дел, и надежды на более счастливое — свободное и мирное — будущее.

What can we, the descendants of those children many of whom were lucky to survive the horrors of the world wars and totalitarianism, do today? At least it’s our duty to continue keeping thankful memories of those people who put humanism higher than political preferences and national and religious differences. We should keep telling the wonderful story of Petrograd colonists to our own and other people’s children and grandchildren to develop in them good natural qualities and to suppress those which can by no means be considered the qualities of a human being. Intolerance, xenophobia, any sort of aggression — first of all military aggression — are destructive both for individuals and nations and for the humanity as a whole. The examples of humanism in history may help bring up a person who will never take the axe and attack the next door neighbor whom he just doesn’t like for some reason. Our task is to show that in any most incredible circumstances people can keep being people.

Unfortunately in the current situation we face difficulties in implementing our plans and ideas, including those with the participation of our foreign partners. But we keep being in touch with them and we are very thankful to our friends in the USA, Japan, Sweden, etc. who are very understanding and do not stop their activities in connection with our international project inside their countries. Especially intensively the information about the adventures of the colonists is spread inside Japan. Of course in all their exhibitions, conferences and publications they emphasize the role of their own country in the rescue of the Russian children. But that is absolutely natural because they really have what to remember and what to be proud of. Our American friends in the academic field also continue their research, organize and take part in the conferences, publish and prepare for publication a lot of materials connected with the role of the USA in returning Petrograd colonists to their motherland. In Sweden the university scholars art busy studying and presenting the biography and activities of pastor Wilhelm Sarwe, the member of the Swedish Red Cross, who played the key role in transferring the kids in danger under the protection of the American Red Cross. We are looking forward to the new discoveries and publications and we cherish a hope that the times will change in the long run and we will be able to regain trust in both — our neighboring and far away countries and will have a chance to collaborate again.

Meanwhile our Moscow partners-film makers keep working hard creating a documentary animation film devoted to the story of Petrograd colonists. We hope that in spite of any obstacles they will manage to finish their very interesting big project.

We would like to greet our friends, partners, assistants and all those who share our position of strong rejection of war and aggression. We would like to wish them health, love and understanding in their families, good deeds and hope for happier — free and peaceful — future.
